From Bach to Bird with Tomi Farkas. Tomi will introduce Bach as one of the most revolutionary composers of his time and explain his instrumental role in music’s melodic and harmonic development using examples of his work. He will then do the same about Bird (Charlie Parker). 2020 is the centenary of Charlie Parker’s birth.
Through some of their tunes, Tomi will lead you on a guided tour to discover the connection between these extraordinary musicians by improvising over their pieces. It is aimed at musicians of all levels with an interest in improvisation, on any instrument or vocals. Join us on this spectacular musical journey.
Guitarist, jazz tutor and composer Tomi has been playing the guitar since 1982. He graduated from Budapest Jazz Conservatoire in 1992 and has lived in the UK since 2006. His most active ongoing projects include the Horn Factory big band, Morphology jazz quartet, Weird Rare Animal jazz trio, the Meerkats cover and original band and a budding jazz quintet.
Tomi’s main influences are Charlie Parker and Wes Montgomery. He is a prolific and gifted composer characterised by a truly open-minded appreciation of all styles of music.
