Award-nominated music photographer John Watson returns to the festival with a special workshop on creating photographs of jazz artists using colour in a dramatic way. Workshop open to all levels, from beginners to advanced. Professional equipment is not essential, but participants need cameras which can shoot at 1600 ISO or above, and must know how to turn off any built-in flash.
An opportunity to photograph a live band is planned as part of the workshop.
John’s work has appeared in many publications, in the UK, including Jazz Journal, London Jazz News, Jazzwise, and European magazines including Jazzthetic (Germany), Orkestajournalen (Sweden) and Musica Jazz (Italy). He has contributed photographs to many books on jazz, most recently to writer Vojislav Pantic’s book Jazz Face, published in November 2019 in Serbia. His own photography book The Power Of Jazz won widespread critical acclaim. He has been nominated three times for photography in the JJA Jazz Awards in New York.
