Musical director Michael KilpatrickMusical director Michael Kilpatrick has a national reputation for his transcriptions of the Duke's music, having worked with the National Youth Jazz Orchestra, the Guildhall School of Music and the BBC, but he'll tell you there is no greater pleasure than performing with his

At St Peter's you will hear everthing from the foot-tapping, vibrant swing of the early 1940s to esoteric Ellingtonia such as movements of Such Sweet Thunder - the Shakespearean suite from 1957 which become one of the most acclaimed albums in jazz - to the jungle sounds that made Duke Ellington famous in his early Cotton Club Days, including an extended version of the classic that gives this concert its title "Black & Tan Fantasy".
