It's fast approaching the summer, and that can mean only one thing for St Peter's, we're open during the whole week!
This year the centre will be open from Monday to Friday between 10:00am and 3:00pm from the 1st May 2009. To kick the season off the Ipswich Hospital Band's Intermediate Band will be performing at the centre on Sunday 3rd May 2009 from 2.30pm, so come on in and listen to the band, and have a look round.
Thanks goes out to all of the volunteers who help keep the centre running during the week, and all those who help with the front of house during concerts.
One of the main purposes of the St Peter's is as a heritage centre. The centre showcases many historical artefacts through the ages including those originally from the church, such as the Tournai marble font, and more modern pieces from the Ipswich area, such as the Millennium Charter Hangings.
Please visit the centre to view these wonderful pieces, and keep an ear out for more pieces appearing in the future, more information will follow...
St Peter's other purpose is for the arts, and we have a number of concerts coming up over the next few months. These can all be found on the events page, but here are May's highlights:
6th May 2009 - The Ipswich School Big Band will performing at St Peter's. This is one of the many musical groups which the school runs; others include their chamber group, chapel choir and jazz and pop groups. More information can be obtained from the Centre Manager, or from the Ipswich School.
16th May 2009 - The Ipswich Choral Society will performing. The main item in the programme is Rossini's Petite Messe Solennelle, where they will be joined by four soloists: Rosamund Walton (Soprano), Aileen Sim (Contralto), Paul Bloomfield (Tenor) and Tom Appleton (Bass) and accompanied by Roy Everett (Harmonium) and John Cooper (Piano).
Tickets cost £9.00 for adults, £7.00 for concessions and £3.00 for children, and are available from Music World on Queen Street in Ipswich or from the society's ticket line on 01473 735878.
